La Maddalena, Sardegna, Italy
The Island of La Maddalena is the biggest island in the archipelag of Sardegna. It’s located North, between Sardegna and Corsica. The beaches are amazing. Nature is spectacular. And once you land here, you will tell yourself that you have to come back. As I did. And I came back twice.
The island will give you a feeling you are in paradise. Small, hidden beaches to which you can get only walking. Beautiful bays and polished rocks. Even the sand is more white than anywhere else and the water more blue and transparent.
You can get to the island by ferry which leaves from the city of Palau every 30 minutes. And trust me, its worth taking a car with you if you have any. The island is really small, though riding around is just another experience all together. And if you are onlu passing by, you can see the island in one day easily.
Another other option is to jump to the ferry by foot, and then take a bus around the island which stops along the coast on the beaches. From the La Maddalena Island you can go by car, or by walk to the nearest island La Caprera (Goat Island) where famous Italian hero and revolutionary Giuseppe Garibaldi have lived for 30 years and he is buried here. You will find there museum dedicated to his memory.
The little town La Maddalena extends along the southern coast of the island. It gets pretty crowded by evenings when all the little cafes and restaurants get busy. Still it doesn’t lose its charm.
